Chaucer as a Medieval Poet and a Poet of Renaissance

CHAUCER AS A MEDIEVAL POET It is generally and frequently remarked that with Chaucer, the old period closes and a new world (the Renaissance) of English literature begins. Therefore, he is called; “Modern among the Medievals and Medieval among the Moderns.” Surely and essentially, he is the supreme poet of Middle Ages and Renaissance. Hence, some of the learned critics have unanimously remarked about Chaucer’s stature; “The evening star of Middle Ages and the morning star of the Renaissance.” His ‘Prologue to the Canterbury Tales’ is pervaded with a number of elements of Middle Ageas and Renaissance.
